On her recent state visit to Scotland, the Queen had a meeting with Alex
Salmond - needless to say the subject of independence cropped up in the
conversation. The Queen asks "In the event of Independence, what would you
propose as Scotland's national status?"
Salmond replies "I'd say Scotland would be a Kingdom."
"I see. Who do you propose as King?"
"Well Ma'am, as First Leader I would naturally fill that role."
"I have my doubts, Mr Salmond. Perhaps you should reconsider......"
"In that case, I'd propose Scotland be a Principality."
"Oh, then who would be Prince?"
"Well Ma'am, again as First Leader I would naturally fill that role."
"I'm not convinced you would be suited to that role, Mr Salmond"
"Well Ma'am, what would you propose as Scotland's national status?"
"Given how keen you are to put yourself forward as leader, I believe the
best status for Scotland would be Country........."
